About Coinbase Ventures
Coinbase Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Coinbase Global, Inc. Formed in 2018, the firm operates under the leadership of head Hoolie Tejwani. Parent company co-founders Brian Armstrong, a former Airbnb engineer, and Fred Ehrsam, a former Goldman Sachs trader, established Coinbase in 2012. Notable portfolio investments include Compound Labs, which received the fund's initial backing in 2018, along with Ethereum layer 2 Arbitrum during its 2021 Series B round. The arm led a $24 million Series A for developer platform thirdweb in 2022, led a $225 million round for messaging protocol Wormhole in 2023, and backed liquid staking protocol Rocket Pool via a private token sale that same year. It also participated in funding rounds for restaking protocol EigenLayer, oracle network RedStone, and prediction market Polymarket.
Recent activity
The firm completed 30 funding rounds during the first half of 2026, leading active venture deployment across the sector. Recent capital allocations focus on AI financial execution and cross-border settlement rails. In 2026, investments included funding for natural-language trading platform Catalyst in October, enterprise credit platform Jeeves and settlement network Fin in September, as well as prediction market terminal River Markets in August. In May 2026, it backed privacy-preserving clearing network Cycles in a $6.4 million financing round.
