Rarible is a non-custodial multichain NFT marketplace and aggregator that lets users mint, discover, buy, and trade digital collectibles across Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Polygon. First archived online in September 2019, the platform combines standard digital token trading with aggregated physical collectibles and mystery pack openings.
Ownership and funding
Rarible was founded in 2018 in the United States and raised early institutional capital across multiple venture rounds. In February 2021, it closed a $1.75 million seed round with backing from CoinFund, Coinbase Ventures, 1kx, and ParaFi Capital. It followed this with a $14.2 million Series A round in June 2021 led by Venrock, 01 Advisors, and 6th Man Ventures. The marketplace assets and operating brand were later acquired by IMPOSSIBLE, operating under Gahinga Inc., while the community-governed RARI Foundation continues independently.
Platform mechanics and fees
Users connect their self-custody Web3 wallets directly without submitting identity verification or completing KYC checks. Smart contracts manage listings, bids, and settlements. Because of this structure, the platform never takes custody of user tokens or wallet balances. Alongside digital NFTs, the platform aggregates listings for graded physical collectibles such as sports cards and comic books, and includes a Gacha feature for pack openings. Trading fees are set at 1.5% on Solana transactions and 2% on Ethereum, Base, and Polygon trades.
Platform track record
By April 2022, the marketplace reported more than 2.1 million active users. On April 5, 2022, security researchers at Check Point Research disclosed a critical vulnerability involving malicious SVG files and setApprovalForAll smart contract calls that could have let attackers seize assets from connected wallets. Rarible acknowledged the report and deployed a fix before public exploits occurred. In June 2026, the dedicated Arbitrum Orbit Layer 2 network, RARI Chain, ceased operations, requiring users to unstake and bridge remaining assets back to the Ethereum mainnet. The platform subsequently updated its core feature set in September 2026.
Risks and limitations
Because Rarible operates on open public blockchains without KYC, buyers face common NFT market risks such as counterfeit collections and wash trading. The platform also discontinued its native Layer 2 scaling chain in mid-2026, leaving users reliant on direct mainnet and secondary L2 network execution fees. Physical collectible aggregations introduce third-party fulfillment variables that fall outside automated on-chain execution.
