CoinGate is a Lithuania-based crypto payment gateway founded in 2014. Businesses can accept BTC, USDC and 10+ other crypto assets, then settle payments in EUR, USD, stablecoins or crypto. The company says it has processed more than 7 million payments and serves 500+ businesses.
Company and regulatory status
CoinGate is operated from Vilnius by the Lithuanian company behind the CoinGate brand. It began operations with a three-person team in Vilnius. The service obtained a MiCA license in the European Union on December 17, 2025, and applies KYC and AML controls to merchant accounts. Its regulated status applies within the relevant EU framework. Merchant obligations can differ by country.
How the gateway works
A merchant can use a hosted checkout, payment links, email invoices, payment channels, an API or a no-code dashboard. E-commerce plugins support WooCommerce, Magento 2, PrestaShop, OpenCart, Shopify, WHMCS and Wix. The API includes a sandbox for testing payment and payout workflows, as well as billing and balance management.
At checkout, CoinGate generates a payment address and locks the exchange rate for the invoice. After confirmation, the incoming asset can be settled to a bank account or crypto wallet, or converted into EUR, USD or stablecoins. Payment channels provide a permanent blockchain deposit address for one client. This lets clients deposit without creating a new invoice each time. CoinGate also holds crypto and fiat balances, supports refunds, and offers crypto payouts with saved wallet addresses. BSC and Polygon were added as network options for several coins in June 2026. EURC is available across payments, payouts, refunds, deposits and conversion on Ethereum.
Fees and availability
Standard merchant processing costs 1% per completed order, with no upfront subscription cost or monthly fee on the Standard plan. Standard-plan EU businesses can make SEPA withdrawals for free, while the minimum withdrawal fee is 50 EUR. Standard-plan fiat settlements run weekly by default. Enterprise customers can negotiate on-demand schedules.
CoinGate supports payouts in 180+ countries. Merchant onboarding requires KYC and KYB checks, including business registration documents and proof of identity. The assets, settlement currencies and payout routes available to a merchant depend on the account and jurisdiction.
Track record and risks
CoinGate launched crypto payouts in January 2025 and obtained its MiCA license in December 2025. It processed 1.42 million crypto payments in 2025. In the first half of 2026, it processed 782,403 crypto payments and completed 8,155 payouts. USDC represented 22.1% of payments in that period, ahead of Bitcoin at 21.0%.
Merchants rely on CoinGate while funds are held or converted, creating counterparty and provider-shutdown risk. Crypto payments are generally irreversible, so an incorrect address or amount can create a loss. Volatility can affect funds before settlement, and regulatory coverage does not remove merchant-country requirements. Supported networks and asset availability can also differ.
