What is Binance Pay?

Binance Pay is a custodial cryptocurrency payment service integrated into the Binance ecosystem, designed to let merchants accept crypto checkouts and support peer-to-peer payments. Operable through the main Binance mobile application and merchant interfaces, the gateway connects merchant payment rails directly to user account balances on the exchange.

Corporate background and backing

The service is developed and operated under Binance, founded in 2017. The parent exchange secured a $15M initial coin offering in July 2017 and later raised a $2 billion investment round from MGX in March 2025, reaching an equity valuation of $35 billion. Across its funding history, the parent company has accumulated approximately $2.015 billion in capital.

How payments and settlement operate

Unlike non-custodial checkout tools, Binance Pay is entirely custodial. Payments do not settle on public blockchains directly during customer checkout; instead, balances transfer internally between verified accounts. When a customer pays a merchant, transactions clear off-chain within the exchange infrastructure.

Risks and considerations

Using Binance Pay carries counterparty exposure inherent to custodial platforms. Because transactions route through central accounts rather than self-hosted wallets or smart contracts, funds remain subject to account controls or exchange solvency risks.

Binance Pay is a cryptocurrency payment gateway built into the Binance application. It allows merchants to accept crypto payments within the Binance ecosystem.

Binance Pay is a hosted, custodial service rather than a self-hosted or non-custodial processor. Transactions execute internally within the Binance ecosystem or through supported crypto balances. This custodial approach keeps direct customer transfers within the Binance ecosystem, but it requires merchants to hold their working capital on a centralized platform, accepting the counterparty risk of the exchange.

Key trade-offs include:

  • No self-hosted deployment option, meaning merchants cannot self-custody private keys through the gateway.

Binance began restoring withdrawals in phases at 06:00 UTC on November 1, 2026. By 12:36 UTC, withdrawals had resumed for all 15 networks and assets in the initial phase. After an initial spike, withdrawal volumes have declined and are stabilising as expected, while deposit volumes have remained substantial.

Between 06:00 and 15:30 UTC on November 1, we processed $4.649 billion in withdrawals and $1.01 billion in deposits, resulting in a net outflow of approximately $3.64 billion. This represents 2.1% of our $171 billion in total assets under management (AUM), based on the latest available Proof of Reserves (PoR) data as of October 28, 2026. A new PoR snapshot was taken at 00:00 UTC on October 31, and zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) computation began. The updated report is expected to be available on our PoR website tomorrow.

Our team continues testing rigorously the remaining networks and assets. We know how important safe and reliable access to your funds is and will share details of the next phase as soon as we can. Rest assured that market conditions are stable.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.
