What is edgeX?

edgeX is a self-custodial decentralized exchange for spot markets and perpetual futures covering crypto, commodities, stocks and other tokenized assets. It uses an order-book model rather than an AMM and runs on its own EDGE chain, with settlement on Ethereum via Arbitrum.

Who is behind it

Amber Group incubated edgeX. The team includes professionals with backgrounds at Barclays Bank, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Bybit and Huobi, with experience in trading and liquidity-based applications. Amber Group was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Hong Kong. Its reported business includes digital-asset trading, asset management and infrastructure.

How it works

Trading uses off-chain order matching with on-chain settlement. Users keep control of their private keys. Deposits first reach the user’s own wallet, then move to a spot or futures account after explicit authorization. Withdrawals also require wallet authorization. The platform operates across the EDGE chain, Ethereum and Arbitrum, and has added markets on Arc. Its products include crypto perpetuals, tokenized stock markets, commodity markets, spot trading, and native iOS and Android applications.

edgeX reports order latency under 100ms and peak throughput of 300,000 orders per second. It also reports $10 million of depth within a one-basis-point spread and slippage below 0.1 basis points on trades exceeding $0.1 million. The platform listed 40 markets and up to 100x leverage in May 2026.

Fees and availability

The platform is available through a web interface and mobile apps, as well as an Android APK.

Track record and risks

edgeX launched its mainnet in October 2024 and officially launched in December 2024. RigSec, SlowMist and PeckShield audited its V1 and V2 contracts, covering contract behavior and fund movement, including system upgrades. On June 1, 2026, EDGE fell from about $1.12 to $0.32 in roughly one hour after selling pressure in a low-liquidity PancakeSwap pool and forced liquidations. On June 4, edgeX announced up to $100,000 in USDC compensation for affected Perp V1 and V2 traders, plus a $200,000 USDC bounty for evidence related to the selling pressure.

The exchange still carries smart-contract, oracle, liquidation, MEV and slippage risks.

Our review

edgeX combines self-custodial order-book trading with high stated capacity, but its 2026 token crash adds material platform and market risk.

edgeX is an order-book DEX for perpetual futures and spot markets, rather than an AMM or a route finder. It runs on the EDGE chain, with settlement on Ethereum through Arbitrum, and supports crypto, commodities, stocks and other tokenized assets.

The platform states that order latency is under 100ms, peak throughput is 300,000 orders per second, and liquidity depth is $10 million within a one-basis-point spread. It also claims slippage below 0.1 basis points on trades above $0.1 million.

Ethereum, Arbitrum and the EDGE chain are documented, with newer activity also appearing on Arc.

Security has meaningful positives. Users authorize deposits and withdrawals through their wallets, and edgeX says it does not hold assets for them. V1 and V2 contracts were audited by RigSec, SlowMist and PeckShield, with reports linked from the project's GitHub. The product also had a recent incident: on June 1, 2026, EDGE fell from about $1.12 to $0.32 in roughly an hour after a low-liquidity PancakeSwap selloff and subsequent liquidations. edgeX later announced up to $100,000 in USDC compensation and a $200,000 research bounty.

Amber Group incubated edgeX, and the team includes professionals from Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Bybit and Huobi. The product still carries smart-contract, oracle, liquidation, MEV and thin-market risks.
