What is Hex Trust?

Company and ownership

Hex Trust was founded in 2018 and runs from two global hubs, Hong Kong and Dubai, with regional offices in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City and an office in Italy. Co-founders Alessio Quaglini (CEO) and Rafal Czerniawski (chief information security officer) run the company, and Rajah Thiyagarajah chairs the board.

Outside investors fund the business. QBN Capital led a $6 million Series A in March 2021. Animoca Brands led a $10 million round that October, then co-led an $88 million Series B with Liberty City Ventures in March 2022, of which $27 million was secondary. Morgan Creek Digital led a strategic investment in February 2025, when Hex Trust said total funding had passed $100 million. The same month it bought the low-latency trading platform Byte Trading, its first acquisition.

Custody model and security

Hex Safe, the company's custody platform, generates keys inside Securosys Primus X200 hardware security modules validated to FIPS 140-3 Level 3, and keys are never exposed in clear text. Wrapped keys are kept in multiple vaults in different locations, and access needs several approvals. Safe Vault offers near-instant access behind an m-of-n approval quorum. Safe Plus Vault keeps assets offline with an extra quorum run by Hex Trust's operations team, and access takes under two hours. Both vault types are air-gapped and receive data only through one-way data diodes. Wallets are segregated on-chain, and client assets sit in an insolvency-remote legal structure.

Deloitte completed SOC 2 Type I in March 2022 and SOC 1 Type I and Type II in February 2023. AssuranceLab followed with SOC 2 Type II in December 2023, the same month Hex Trust gained CSA STAR Level 2 certification.

Regulation and insurance

In Hong Kong, Hex Trust is a registered trust company under the Trustee Ordinance and holds a Trust or Company Service Provider license. In Singapore, Hex Technologies Pte Ltd has held a MAS Major Payment Institution license since March 1, 2025, covering digital payment token services such as custody and OTC trading. Dubai's VARA register shows two active licenses: Hex Trust MENA FZE for custody services (VL/23/08/002, issued November 15, 2023) and HT Markets MENA FZE for broker-dealer services (VL/23/08/003, issued May 31, 2024). No license in the European Union appears on the current Trust Center.

Insurance cover tops out at $25 million in aggregate across all clients. It covers custodian fraud or dishonesty and physical loss of or damage to private keys. Clients can arrange dedicated cover with the lead insurer for an extra premium.

Products and integrations

Hex Safe supports 501 assets on 31 blockchains, and WalletConnect links custody wallets to more than 17,000 dApps. Staking is native and custodial, covering networks including Ethereum, Solana, Celestia and Injective, plus Bitcoin staking through partners such as Babylon. Liquid staking runs through Lido for ETH and Jito for SOL, and in January 2026 Hex Trust became a super validator on the Canton Network. The markets business handles OTC execution and lending, and an October 2026 partnership with BCB Group widened its fiat on- and off-ramps. Hex Trust also issues wXRP, backed one-for-one by XRP in segregated custody and moved across chains through LayerZero. Convert-to-Pay is a payment API for regulated payment providers that accept digital assets and settle in fiat. Aura, launched in February 2026, extends the business to private wealth clients. Fireblocks added Hex Trust to its Custody Network in November 2025 as a qualified custodian for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Our review

4.0/5
Very good

Hex Trust suits foundations and institutions in Asia and the Gulf that want broad asset coverage, staking and DeFi access from one licensed custodian. Its $25 million aggregate insurance cap and the lack of a listed EU license are the main limits.

Breadth is Hex Trust's main strength. Hex Safe lists 501 assets on 31 chains, including recent networks such as Monad and HyperEVM, and staking runs from Ethereum and Solana to Bitcoin staking and Canton validation. A protocol foundation can hold its treasury, stake it and reach DeFi through WalletConnect without bringing in a second provider. The company states it has had no slashing events across protocols since inception.

The security design holds up on paper. Keys stay inside FIPS 140-3 Level 3 HSMs, and the vaults are isolated from the internet behind data diodes. The Trust Center names the auditor and month for each SOC report, including a SOC 2 Type II from AssuranceLab. That report dates from December 2023, though, and the About page credits AssuranceLab with all SOC work while the Trust Center credits Deloitte with SOC 1, so the records do not fully match.

Insurance is the weak spot. The $25 million cap is shared by every client, set against the $5 billion in assets under custody the company reports, and higher limits require dedicated cover at an extra premium. Licensing is concentrated in Asia and the Gulf. The MAS license and two VARA licenses carry weight there, but Hong Kong coverage rests on trust company registration and a TCSP license, and no EU license is listed. Trades on the Aura wealth platform are booked with HT Markets (SVG) Limited, a company incorporated in St Vincent and the Grenadines. A Series C that Hex Trust flagged for later in 2025 has not appeared in its press releases.

Membership in the Fireblocks Custody Network gives Fireblocks users a direct route to Hex Trust custody in Asia and the Middle East. Hex Trust fits token foundations and crypto-native institutions in those regions that want staking and DeFi access next to custody. Clients that need EU-regulated custody or large insured limits are a weaker match.

The news coming out of Binance is sad for everyone in this industry.

These are the moments when we come together - clients, partners, and competitors alike - and root for each other, hoping to see those affected come back stronger. It is nice to see the community coming together at a time like this.

Building the future of finance takes resilience, and today that resilience belongs to the whole industry.

Cold storage usually means waiting up to two hours to move funds. With Hex Trust, signing takes 1 second.

Welcome to this week's 📊 Market Pulse: Macro Relief Capped By Iran Risk

💡 Institutional infrastructure for digital assets crossed a threshold this week — the question is whether BTC can break $67K before the July 29 FOMC changes the calculus.

Here's what we're watching:

🔹 BTC +1.27% to $64,386 — muted response to the largest US CPI downside surprise since 2020
🔹 ETH outperforms at +4.35%, with $105M in weekly spot ETF inflows (58% of all crypto fund flows)
🔹 SWIFT live blockchain ledger + USDC federal bank approval mark a threshold week for digital asset infrastructure

💡 Price consolidated this week while regulated on-chain infrastructure went live — the market hasn't fully priced the structural shift yet.

Here's what we're watching:

🔹 Circle National Trust approved by OCC, SWIFT's live blockchain ledger joins 17 banks — on-chain banking is real
🔹 BTC and ETH ETFs break their 8-week combined outflow streak with $282M net inflows this week
🔹 June CPI on July 14 is the binary: below 3.8% targets $70K BTC, above 4.0% risks $60K retest

Welcome to this week's 📊 Market Pulse: Macro Ceiling, On-Chain Floor

💡 Two central banks tightened simultaneously this week. Bitcoin fell -5.24% to $60K as Warsh removed the cutting bias and the Bank of Japan hiked to 1%. Whales bought the dip. Everything now depends on June CPI on July 14 — and the Iran strait closure rhetoric introduced over the weekend could shift that binary before it arrives.

Here's what we're watching:

🔹 Third consecutive week of BTC ETF outflows (~$1.72B), pace decelerating. 2026 outflows now exceed $7B.
🔹 On-chain floor firming: ~270K BTC net-bought by whales over 30 days, exchange reserves at 7-year lows.
🔹 SOL only large-cap green (+2.32%). JUP +29%. Capital…

Welcome to this week's 📊 Market Pulse: Spot Beta Fractures, Institutional Rails Hold

💡 Spot beta fractured and BTC lost its $79k–$80k anchor; but the institutional stack kept building regulated derivatives, tokenised settlement and payment infrastructure without missing a beat.

Here’s what we’re watching:

🔹 Large-cap ETF sponsorship deteriorated: BTC spot ETFs lost $1.416B (led by $1B IBIT redemptions), ETH lost $241.6M, extending persistent outflow sequences.
🔹 BTC failed technical repair: Rejected $79k–$80k band, rolled back to $73k–$74k, with BTC/ES falling to 9.7 confirming crypto-specific underperformance vs equities.
🔹 Institutional plumbing accelerated: Regulated U.S. perpetual…
