Company and ownership
Cobo was founded in 2017 by Discus Fish, also known as Shixing Mao, and Dr. Changhao Jiang. Discus Fish, a co-founder of the F2Pool mining pool, is chief executive. Jiang, a former engineer at Facebook and Google, is chief technology officer. The company set up its Singapore headquarters in 2020 and has an office in Hong Kong. Funding came from a $13 million Series A in October 2018 and a $40 million Series B in 2021 co-led by DST Global, IMO Ventures and A&T Capital. Client agreements are signed with Cobo Technologies Limited, a British Virgin Islands company.
In October 2026 Cobo reported more than 680 clients in nearly 50 countries and regions. Deribit and Vantage Markets are among the customers quoted on its homepage, and The Asian Banker reported in November 2025 that its client base is mainly in Asia.
Custody model and security
Cobo offers custodial, MPC, smart contract and exchange wallets on one platform. In custodial wallets, Cobo alone manages the private keys, which are secured with hardware security modules and Intel SGX, and about 95% of funds sit in cold wallets. MPC wallets split each key into shares under an m-of-n scheme, with signing nodes running inside trusted execution environments, so no single party, Cobo included, holds a complete key. Client organizations keep control of their funds in that setup. Exchange wallets link accounts on third-party exchanges through API keys held by Cobo.
Every plan includes transaction and governance policies plus approval workflows. Cobo first obtained a SOC 2 Type 2 report in 2023 and says a Big Four firm performs the audit. It also holds ISO 27001 certification.
Regulation and licenses
Cobo holds a Trust or Company Service Provider (TCSP) license in Hong Kong, which it says lets it provide custody solutions there. The company also reports licensed entities in Canada and the United States. In November 2025 chief operating officer Lily King told The Asian Banker that Cobo was still working through licensing in Singapore and the Middle East, and that its custodial wallets support safeguarding and segregation rules in both Singapore and Hong Kong. Onboarding includes KYC and anti-money laundering checks, with electronic identity verification of the applicant and its company. The account terms follow British Virgin Islands law and send disputes to arbitration at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.
Products and integrations
The Wallet-as-a-Service 2.0 API spans more than 80 chains and 3,000 tokens and supports webhooks plus transfers to exchanges including Binance, OKX, Bybit and Deribit. Main networks include Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Tron, Solana and TON. SuperLoop mirrors assets held in MPC or custodial wallets to supported exchanges, so trading balances settle off-exchange. Settlement Network, launched in July 2026, settles fiat-for-stablecoin trades that two institutions have already agreed: fiat is held in virtual bank sub-accounts and stablecoins in Cobo custody until both sides sign through Cobo Guard, after which the transfer executes automatically.
Staking runs through the API, with endpoints for staking pools and Babylon BTC staking, and Cobo offers Berachain Proof-of-Liquidity staking through CoinSummer validators. Cobo Agentic Wallet, released in 2026, gives AI agents an MPC-secured wallet that is non-custodial by default. Pricing is public: Starter costs $299 a month and Standard $999, both with MPC and exchange wallets and no cap on assets under custody.
