Visa crypto debit card with 300+ spendable assets and up to 4% XRP rewards
Uphold Debit Card is a custodial Visa card for eligible US residents. It draws on an Uphold wallet and lets cardholders spend dollars, stablecoins, crypto and precious metals, including more than 300 digital assets. The Elite plan offers up to 4% back in XRP on purchases funded with cryptocurrency or metals.
The card is part of Uphold, a digital-asset company founded by Halsey Minor in 2014 and headquartered in Larkspur, United States. Uphold holds a NYDFS BitLicense, is a FinCEN-registered money services business and holds 51 US state money transmitter licenses. Its UK entity is registered as an FCA electronic money institution. The US card is issued by Cross River Bank, Member FDIC, under a Visa license. Pass-through FDIC insurance can apply to qualifying dollar deposits held at Cross River Bank, subject to the stated conditions.
Spending comes from balances in the Uphold wallet rather than a separate self-custody wallet. Funding options include bank transfers, direct deposit, PayPal and crypto deposits. Users can spend from more than 300 assets, including BTC, ETH, XRP, USDC, USDT, Gold and Silver, with a spending priority order set in the app. The card works online and in person wherever Visa is accepted. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also supported where available. No credit check is required.
The Essential plan has a $0 annual fee, a $0 virtual card, a $4.99 physical card and a $2.95 ATM withdrawal fee. It charges a 1.50% foreign transaction fee and offers up to 2% in XRP rewards, capped at $120. The Elite plan costs $99.99 annually, includes a $0 virtual card and metal physical card, and charges $0 for ATM withdrawals and foreign transactions. Elite rewards reach 4% for cryptocurrency or metals-funded purchases and 3% for fiat or stablecoin-funded purchases, capped at $300 in XRP each month. Stablecoin balances can earn up to 3% APY.
The US card is available to US residents in participating states and Washington, D.C. It excludes Louisiana, New York and US territories. Uphold account onboarding is required. Rewards are paid in XRP, so their value can change, and the higher Elite rate has a $99.99 annual cost. The card is custodial, leaving access dependent on Uphold, its banking partner and card program. Crypto-funded purchases can also create taxable sales.
Uphold combines broad asset spending with XRP rewards, but its custodial model, US-only access and paid Elite tier limit flexibility.
Uphold Debit Card is a custodial Visa card for eligible US residents. It spends from balances in an Uphold wallet rather than from a self-custody wallet, so the card depends on Uphold account access and compliance controls. The US card is issued by Cross River Bank under a Visa license. Uphold says dollar deposits may receive pass-through FDIC insurance through Cross River Bank, subject to the stated conditions, while Uphold itself is not an FDIC-insured bank.
The card supports spending from dollars and 300+ digital assets, including cryptocurrency, stablecoins, gold and silver. A user can set a spending priority order in the app. Stablecoin spending and Apple Pay or Google Pay support are available where supported. Funding can come through bank transfer, direct deposit, PayPal or crypto deposits.
Elite costs $99.99 per year and pays up to 4% in XRP on eligible cryptocurrency or metals-funded purchases, up to 3% when funded with fiat or stablecoins, with rewards capped at up to $300 per month. Essential has no annual fee and pays up to 2% in XRP, capped at $120. Rewards are therefore exposed to XRP price movements, and the Elite fee reduces the value of smaller spending volumes. Essential charges $4.99 for its physical card, $2.95 for ATM withdrawals and 1.50% for foreign transactions; Elite charges $0 for those listed items.
This card is limited to US residents in participating states and Washington, D.C., excluding Louisiana, New York and US territories. The product also uses a custodial account.
Uphold was founded by Halsey Minor in 2014 and has a US regulatory footprint that includes a NYDFS BitLicense, FinCEN registration and 51 state money transmitter licenses.
