MetaMask Card
Self-custodial Mastercard debit card with 1% mUSD cashback and four supported chains
What is MetaMask Card?
MetaMask Card is a self-custodial Mastercard debit card for spending supported crypto at Mastercard merchants. The free Virtual card pays 1% cashback in mUSD, while the $199-per-year Metal card pays 3% on the first $10,000 of annual spending, then 1%.
Who is behind it
The card is part of MetaMask, the wallet business operated by Consensys. MetaMask was founded in 2016. Consensys announced in September 2026 that CSI would be rebranded as MetaMask, with Joe Lubin as Chairman and CEO, while the former CSI Protocols Group and institutional blockchain infrastructure business became a separate company. Cross River Bank is the banking partner for the card program.
How the card works
Crypto remains in the linked self-custodial wallet until a payment is made. Card funds can be managed from the MetaMask mobile app. Supported deposits operate across Linea, Base, Solana and Monad. Assets include mUSD, USDC and USDT, with additional support for wETH, EURe, GBPe, aUSDC, amUSD and aBasUSDC depending on the network.
mUSD can be spent directly from a linked Money Account. Apple Pay and Google Pay support contactless payments. Each top-up and spend incurs on-chain gas, typically around $0.01. The Virtual card has a $15,000 daily spending limit and a $1,000 daily ATM limit. Metal limits are $30,000 and $5,000 respectively.
Fees and rewards
The Virtual card is free. Metal costs $199 per year and includes no foreign transaction fees. Metal ATM withdrawals are free up to $1,200 per month. Cashback is paid in mUSD, MetaMask's dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Bridge, a Stripe company. Frequent top-ups can add recurring network costs, even when the card itself has no issuance fee.
Availability and record
MetaMask announced general availability across the United States, including New York, in February 2026. Users in New York and Texas can spend supported tokens only on Linea and Base. The card can be used through Apple Pay, Google Pay or a physical Metal card at more than 150 million Mastercard merchants worldwide. US sign-ups were temporarily paused on June 3, 2026.
Risks and limitations
Availability varies by region and chain. Cashback is denominated in mUSD rather than fiat, and the Metal headline rate is capped at the first $10,000 of annual spending. The self-custodial design leaves wallet access and transaction approval with the customer, while card use also depends on the banking partner and program availability. Network fees can make small, frequent top-ups more expensive.

Our review
MetaMask Card spends crypto from a self-custodial wallet, but its $199 Metal tier, on-chain gas costs, and regional limits reduce its everyday value.
MetaMask Card is a Mastercard debit card that spends supported tokens from a self-custodial MetaMask wallet. MetaMask says the card works at more than 150 million Mastercard merchants worldwide, although actual availability and supported features vary by region.
The free Virtual card has a 1% mUSD cashback rate and a $15,000 daily spending limit. The Metal card costs $199 per year, pays 3% mUSD back on the first $10,000 of annual spending and 1% after that, and raises the daily limit to $30,000. Metal also has no foreign transaction fees and free ATM withdrawals up to $1,200 per month. Those are documented strengths, but the headline cashback is capped and paid in mUSD, MetaMask's dollar-pegged stablecoin, rather than a cash balance.
Funding is available across Linea, Base, Solana and Monad. Supported assets include stablecoins such as USDC and USDT, along with mUSD, wETH, EURe and GBPe on selected networks. Every top-up and spend incurs on-chain gas, typically around $0.01, so frequent small payments add a cost that ordinary debit cards do not have. ATM limits are $1,000 per day for Virtual and $5,000 for Metal.
Cross River Bank is the banking partner. MetaMask has operated since 2016 and is part of Consensys; Joe Lubin is MetaMask's Chairman and CEO. The card reached United States general availability, including New York, on February 26, 2026, but US sign-ups were temporarily paused on June 3, 2026.

In their own words
“Very smooth MetaMask has always been intuitive since the early versions. But it just gets better and better. Back in the day I appreciated the ease in which you could generate multiple wallets”
“It’s a very user-friendly if I can use it It’s so very nice. It’s very easy for buy eth token buy sell button”
“hideen fee Misleading gas fee estimation! The app shows one gas fee amount on the confirmation screen, but actually deducts a significantly higher amount from my wallet after the transaction goes through. Charged way more than what was displayed.”
“Browser Busted Not sure which update did this, but the on-chain browser is so busted I can’t even close tabs anymore. When I try to use the browser and open new tabs, the app basically freezes and crashes. MM could use a tremendous facelift”
“MetaMask Card has been withholding my money for 11 days as of today I just want to share this story so everyone is aware of what's happening (and I'll make sure to share it on other subs too). I have a MetaMask Card that I've been using for the past few months.”
“VERY FRUSTRATED!!!! So I bought crypto on the 12th of June and the tokens haven't been sent to my wallet. The token is verified as safe by Metamask. I have been trying to resolve this and I am at a loss! The entirety of Metamask support is a chatbot that has failed to solve my issue.”
Scam warning: Phishing emails and links have exposed users' secret recovery phrases.
Scam warning: Fake trading platforms, support accounts, and wallets can trick users into depositing funds or paying gas before draining them.
