What is Proofivy?

Proofivy is an infrastructure platform that provides cryptographic proof of ownership for digital files and enables web publishers to monetize artificial intelligence scrapers. Instead of uploading entire raw files to public infrastructure, the service anchors SHA-256 cryptographic hashes directly to the Ethereum blockchain, establishing an immutable timestamp for the committed fingerprint without exposing sensitive underlying content.

How provenance and x402 monetization work

Proofivy functions through two core architectures: Digital Seals and the x402 pay-per-article protocol. For provenance, a user's client calculates a content identifier using SHA-256 and commits the hash onchain through smart contracts. When using the native iOS application, commits are signed with the user's key and submitted via an address managed by Proofivy. Through its dedicated smart contract, creators can convert timestamped proof commits into tradeable NFTs to transfer digital rights. For publishers, Proofivy runs x402 server infrastructure that identifies automated scrapers and requests micropayments in Base USDC, keeping human reader access intact while settling machine transactions onchain in seconds.

Pricing and contract operations

Public interaction with the Proofivy smart contracts requires payment in ETH. Standard public commits cost 0.001 ETH each, while public onchain text messages cost 0.002 ETH. The NFT contract allows users to convert established proofs into NFTs for free, excluding the necessary network gas fees. Organizations and enterprises can organize under Guilds, which waive per-operation transaction fees for validated team members through subscription plans and custom onboarding.

Adoption and development milestones

The proofivy.com domain was registered in August 2021. The platform released its first mobile version on the Apple App Store in March 2023, joined the Content Authenticity Initiative in June 2023, and moved commit anchoring to Ethereum mainnet the same month. More than 10,000 works have been secured across creative and scientific fields, including work by The Lab for Germinal Center Biology. CryptoSlate deployed Proofivy's x402 infrastructure as the first production implementation of pay-per-article charging for AI access.

Operational risks and architectural trade-offs

Proofivy handles data verification rather than decentralized storage, meaning users remain entirely responsible for storing original files matching the registered hashes. Mobile submissions route through a Proofivy-operated Ethereum address, introducing a custodial execution layer between the mobile user and the network.

Best for:Publishers charging AI agents for contentResearchers timestamping lab discovery dataCreators needing verifiable date of creation

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Stores only SHA-256 hashes, keeping source files and confidential data private
  • x402 infrastructure automates USDC content monetization on Base for AI scraper traffic
  • Converting existing timestamp proofs into tradeable NFTs carries zero platform fee
  • Memberships allow organizations to bypass individual per-commit public fees

Cons

  • Public commits carry a contract fee of 0.001 ETH plus network gas
  • iOS application routes commits through a Proofivy-owned Ethereum wallet
  • Users must independently retain raw source files to verify registered hashes

Our review

Weak

Proofivy combines onchain provenance with x402 payments, but it is not a conventional RPC or oracle provider and has limited infrastructure disclosures.

Proofivy is an intellectual-property provenance platform rather than a general RPC, indexing, or oracle service. Its Digital Seals hash files with SHA-256 and record the fingerprint on Ethereum without uploading the underlying material. The site says more than 10,000 works have been protected. Current documentation names Ethereum and Base, while an older 2023 announcement described an Optimism release, so the present chain list is narrower than the historical product record.

The strongest part is the separation between private content and public proof. A creator can establish that a file existed at a point in time without handing the file to Proofivy. The x402 infrastructure adds a second use case: publishers can charge AI agents in Base USDC for access, while humans and approved bots read for free. CryptoSlate is identified as the first production pay-per-article deployment. The platform also offers NFT conversion for proofs, an iPhone app, a Web3 app, command-line tools, and an MCP server.

Costs are clear for the documented public operations. A public commit costs 0.001 ETH, a public onchain message costs 0.002 ETH, and NFT conversion is free. Guild operations are free for guild members after onboarding and subscription. Public commits, messages, NFT conversion, and guild operations have the stated fees and access conditions.

The main weaknesses are scope and operational detail. Proofivy also creates dependence on its contracts, owned wallets for some signed commits, and its x402 integration.

Proofivy joined the Content Authenticity Initiative and lists The Lab for Germinal Center Biology as an early scientific user. Its domain dates to August 2021, and its recorded milestones include the 2022 first-user announcement and the CryptoSlate deployment. The product fits creators and publishers needing timestamped provenance or AI-access payments.

Inside Proofivy

Digital Seals

Digital Seals turn a file or other content into a SHA-256 fingerprint and record it onchain as timestamped proof without uploading the original data.

x402 Content Monetization

Publishers can charge AI agents in Base USDC for content access through automatic micropayments. The site identifies CryptoSlate as its first production pay-per-article deployment.

NFT Integration

Proofivy can convert proofs into tradeable NFTs to represent documented IP rights and ownership transfers onchain.

Integration Options

The platform names web, mobile, command-line, API, single sign-on, and custom integration options. An MCP server is also listed among its tools.

Guild Operations

Guilds provide commit operations for onboarded groups such as companies and organizations. Guild members can create commits without the public-operation fee.

FAQ

What is Proofivy used for?

Proofivy records cryptographic fingerprints of files, plans, ideas, and documents onchain, then supports content payments through x402. It also lets users convert proofs into tradeable NFTs.

How much does Proofivy cost?

A public commit costs 0.001 ETH and a public onchain message costs 0.002 ETH. NFT unleashing is free, while guild operations are free for guild members with guild onboarding and subscription.

Which blockchains does Proofivy support?

Current documentation names Ethereum and Base. An earlier product release also described deployment on Optimism.

Does Proofivy hold the files it protects?

No file upload is required for a Digital Seal: Proofivy hashes the content and records the fingerprint onchain. The underlying file stays outside that blockchain record.

Does Proofivy have a token?

Proofivy's documentation describes ETH for public operations and Base USDC for x402 content payments.

Is Proofivy an RPC or oracle provider?

Proofivy is an IP provenance and content-monetization platform, not a general RPC or oracle service. Its developer tools focus on commits, contract integrations, API access, and x402 payments.
