Hardware wallet splitting private keys across an X1 Vault and four NFC cards
Cypherock X1 is a self-custody hardware wallet that splits a wallet’s private key into five parts using Shamir’s Secret Sharing. One share stays in the X1 Vault, while four encrypted shares are stored on NFC X1 Cards. No single component contains the complete key.
The X1 Vault uses a dual-chip design for offline computation and verification. Its EAL 6+ secure elements are in the X1 Cards, which are tapped on the Vault when signing transactions. The device works with the cySync companion app and supports DeFi and NFTs through WalletConnect.
Cypherock lists support for more than 19,000 digital assets across 10 or more blockchains, including Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It also supports BIP39 and can manage seed phrases from other wallets. The product is not a conventional seed-phrase wallet, since its own key material is distributed across the Vault and Cards.
Cypherock X1 costs $159, discounted from a standard price of $199 in June 2026. An X1 Vault replacement costs $89, and a replacement pack of four Cards costs $79. A hardcase is available for $59. The product is available for purchase. Hardware wallets can be exposed to supply-chain tampering when bought through third-party resellers, so the purchase channel is part of the security model.
Keylabs audited the X1 and announced the completed audit on November 7, 2022. Cypherock says it implemented the audit improvements and has published relevant security details from the report. The company’s website describes the firmware as open source and lists the X1 as having passed WalletScrutiny review.
The X1’s distributed design reduces the effect of losing or compromising one component, but recovery still depends on retaining enough working components. The system also relies on Cypherock’s hardware, firmware, app and card supply chain.
The X1 Vault has a small 0.96-inch screen, which can make navigation difficult. The Cards use plastic construction. Direct NFT storage on Solana is not supported, although WalletConnect can provide access to supported DeFi and NFT applications.
Users also face replacement costs if the Vault or Card set is damaged. App dependencies and physical attacks remain relevant hardware-wallet risks even when private keys are split across several devices.
Cypherock's split-key design removes a single seed backup point, but its small screen and multi-part setup add cost and handling compared with conventional hardware wallets.
Shamir’s Secret Sharing divides the wallet key into five parts across one X1 Vault and four X1 Cards, so no single component contains the complete key. The cards use encrypted NFC and EAL 6+ secure elements, while the Vault uses two chips for offline computation and verification.
Keylabs audited the X1 in 2022, and Cypherock says it implemented the report’s improvements. The company also presents the firmware as open source. No Cypherock hack or exploit has been reported. Recovery phrases remain a separate single point of failure in conventional hardware-wallet setups.
Cypherock lists 19,000+ tokens across 10+ blockchains as of June 2026, and cySync connects to DeFi and NFTs through WalletConnect. Direct NFT storage on Solana is a limitation. The companion app also supports buying Bitcoin and other crypto through Binance, according to the product site. Cypherock X1 was listed at $159 in June 2026, discounted from $199. Replacement costs are $89 for the Vault and $79 for a card pack, so the five-part system can become expensive to replace.
Tapping a card on the Vault avoids writing down a traditional seed phrase, and the system can manage seed phrases from other wallets. The 0.96-inch screen makes navigation frustrating, however, and the X1 Cards use plastic construction. Five physical components also require more careful storage than a standard device and its recovery phrase.
Cypherock suits holders who value distributed recovery and wide asset coverage. The company’s public backers include Gnosis co-founder and CTO Stefan George and Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal.
