Open-source Bitcoin and Liquid hardware wallet with air-gapped QR signing
Blockstream Jade is an open-source hardware wallet for Bitcoin and Liquid assets. Its built-in camera supports QR-based signing, so transactions can move between the wallet and a phone without a cable or Bluetooth connection. The current Jade range includes the compact Jade Classic and the larger Jade Plus, with the Plus available in reinforced plastic and metal versions.
Jade is developed by Blockstream, the company behind the Blockstream App and Liquid Network services. Blockstream's consumer product roadmap includes further Jade releases. In May 2025, the company donated 1,000 Jade devices to Mi Primer Bitcoin at a Bitcoin Pizza Day event co-hosted with PubKey in New York.
Jade keeps signing keys on the device while compatible software prepares and broadcasts transactions. It works with the Blockstream App, Sparrow, Electrum and HWI. Bitcoin and Liquid are the supported networks, with no altcoin support listed. USB-C and Bluetooth provide connected workflows, while QR codes allow air-gapped signing. Jade Plus also supports SD card or USB drive workflows, including the JadeLink Air-Gapped USB Drive accessory.
The Jade Classic has a 1.14-inch full-color IPS display, built-in QR camera, 240 mAh battery and a 60 × 24 × 17 mm body weighing 25 grams. Jade Plus has a 1.9-inch IPS display, upgraded GC0308 camera, 280 mAh battery and a 65 × 30 × 12 mm profile. Passphrases and multisig are part of the supported security setup, and the Blockstream App restored 2FA-protected multisig accounts in October 2026.
Jade Plus reinforced plastic starts at €134.95. The metal version starts at €152.95, while the JadeLink Air-Gapped USB Drive costs €18.00. Jade devices are listed as in stock. The wallet itself is a self-custody device rather than an exchange account, so its use does not depend on depositing funds with Blockstream.
The Blockstream App launched in July 2025 as a unified Bitcoin wallet designed to work with Jade. Firmware 1.0.41, released in August 2026, included security updates. Blockstream said Jade was not affected by the Coldcard random-number vulnerability discussed that month and stated that its recovery phrase uses multiple independent entropy sources.
Air-gapped signing reduces reliance on a connected computer, but users still face supply-chain risks when buying from resellers and physical theft or damage. Bitcoin and Liquid support excludes other networks. The device's open-source design helps external review, while the hardware remains dependent on firmware updates and compatible wallet software.
Jade offers open-source Bitcoin and Liquid signing with QR air-gapping, but it does not support general altcoin networks.
Blockstream Jade is a self-custody hardware wallet for Bitcoin and Liquid assets. Its main security distinction is fully open-source firmware combined with QR signing, a built-in camera, USB-C and Bluetooth. Jade Plus also supports SD card or USB drive workflows.
Coin support is narrow by design. Jade supports Bitcoin and Liquid but does not support general altcoin networks, so its asset coverage is limited to Bitcoin and Liquid. The trade-off is clear: it suits a Bitcoin holder or Liquid user, but not someone who wants one device for Ethereum, stablecoins and other networks. The device supports passphrases and multisig workflows through compatible software, while the Blockstream App adds 2FA-protected multisig accounts with server-cosigned, open-source recovery.
Jade Classic has a 1.14-inch full-color IPS display, a 240 mAh battery and a 25-gram, 60 x 24 x 17 mm body. Jade Plus increases the display to 1.9 inches and uses a 280 mAh battery. The device does not offer a touchscreen.

The available discussion is overwhelmingly positive, but it mostly consists of recommendations rather than detailed owner experiences. Users mainly highlight Jade as an open-source hardware wallet with strong security characteristics, while no recurring product complaint is raised by at least two different authors.
“Some hardware wallets that are compatible with iOS mobile are the Blockstream Jade Plus, Foundation Passport Core, Keystone 3 Pro, BitBox02 Nova, Trezor Safe 7, and Block Bitkey. These six hardware wallets all have publicly available source code that can be reviewed.”
“Trezor \- Easy to use, no matter how new in Bitcoin you're. Use the Bitcoin only firmware as it's safer than a multi coin software. ColdCard - air gapped, Bitcoin only, has advanced features but a new user will do fine with one of the great tutorials available.”
