Self-custodial Bitcoin wallet launched in 2021, backed by an undisclosed strategic round
Xverse is a self-custodial wallet and onchain financial platform focused on Bitcoin and Bitcoin Layer 2 activity. It supports Bitcoin, Stacks, Starknet and Spark, and reports nearly 2,000,000 users as of October 2026. The wallet is operated by Secret Key Labs Limited.
Ken Liao is CEO and co-founder. His professional background is in Bitcoin infrastructure and financial sovereignty, with a focus on Bitcoin’s technical foundations, protocol upgrades and engineering decisions. Xverse launched in 2021. On October 5, 2026, Draper Associates led a strategic funding round joined by Trust Machines and Draper Dragon; the terms were undisclosed.
The wallet is self-custodial, so the user controls the keys and authorizes transactions. It is available on iOS, Android and Chrome. Supported activity includes Bitcoin, Stacks, Starknet and Spark assets, alongside Ordinals, Runes, stablecoins and Bitcoin-related DeFi. Xverse also offers swaps through third-party liquidity providers, Earn products, borrowing against Bitcoin, and Cash features for sending and receiving money.
Ledger and Keystone hardware wallets can connect to Xverse. Transactions signed through those devices keep the keys on the hardware wallet. Xverse’s mobile products also include perpetuals trading, with markets and leverage terms varying by product and availability.
Xverse is free to download and use. Onchain transactions incur standard network fees. STX-to-BTC swaps can include estimated network fees, a liquidity-provider fee and an Xverse swap fee; the full breakdown appears before confirmation. Fiat transfers are advertised with near-zero fees and no spread. The wallet does not require identity verification. Fiat onramps and card providers may set their own requirements.
The site reports more than 2,000,000 downloads as of October 2026. Least Authority regularly audits Xverse code. On June 7, 2023, Xverse disclosed a Chrome extension issue that could leave seed phrases unencrypted on local devices under certain conditions. The issue affected extension users and did not affect iOS or Android users; it was fixed in version 0.11.5. Xverse stated that no funds were lost and no hacks or exploits were reported.
Self-custody leaves seed-phrase loss and phishing risks with the wallet holder. Swaps add liquidity-provider and Xverse fees to network costs. Earn and Borrow expose users to the relevant protocols and collateral conditions. The Chrome extension also has the security risks common to browser wallets.

Xverse combines self-custody with Bitcoin-focused financial tools, but its 2023 extension incident and narrower chain coverage remain material trade-offs.
It supports Bitcoin, Stacks, Starknet and Spark, and is available on iOS, Android and Chrome.
Xverse includes swaps, Bitcoin-aligned earning products, borrowing against BTC, stablecoin payments and fiat transfer features. Xverse Cash handles sending and receiving money, while Xverse Borrow provides liquidity without transferring custody of the underlying Bitcoin. Swap fees can include network costs, a liquidity provider fee and an Xverse fee, with the breakdown shown before confirmation. Yield rates are variable and not guaranteed, so these tools add protocol and market risk beyond ordinary wallet use.
The wallet is self-custodial, supports Ledger and Keystone, and says its code is audited by Least Authority. A Chrome extension issue disclosed on June 7, 2023 could leave seed phrases unencrypted on local devices under certain conditions. It affected extension users, not the mobile apps, and was mitigated in version 0.11.5 and later. Seed-phrase loss and phishing remain standard self-custody risks.
Xverse launched in 2021 and is run by CEO and co-founder Ken Liao. The company reported nearly 2,000,000 users and closed a strategic funding round led by Draper Associates on October 5, 2026, with Trust Machines and Draper Dragon participating.

The feedback is mostly complaint-driven, with repeated reports of Rune balances disappearing during Bitcoin transfers. Other isolated complaints involve unstaking withdrawals, missing Bitcoin, and wallet access errors, while no specific positive theme is raised by multiple authors.
“Help Needed: 2.5M DOG Runes Disappeared After Bitcoin Transaction I need help, please!! I had **2,500,000 DOG (Runes)** in my Xverse wallet, valued at approximately **US$2,000**. Xverse and Binance Wallet were connected to the same wallet.”
