Gem Wallet is an open-source, self-custodial mobile cryptocurrency wallet developed by Wallet Labs. Users can hold, swap, stake, and buy digital assets across more than 100 blockchains. Private keys stay on the user's smartphone without requiring account registration or identity verification.
Company background and development
Wallet Labs was founded in 2023 and operates out of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. The team develops Gem Wallet as a privacy-focused mobile application and publishes its source code on GitHub.
Custody and key features
Gem Wallet operates on a strict self-custodial architecture. Private keys remain encrypted on the mobile device using native OS security modules, specifically Apple Keychain on iOS and Google Tink on Android. Wallet creation requires no email, phone number, or KYC documentation, relying entirely on a standard 12-word seed phrase for backup and account recovery.
The app supports native assets and tokens across over 100 networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, TRON, Base, TON, XRP Ledger, and Aptos. It features a built-in cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator that queries 23 routing providers, including THORChain, Mayan, and Chainflip. Users can execute direct trades between non-EVM and EVM chains. They can also stake supported assets directly in the interface and adjust network fee tiers manually or dynamically.
Pricing and fees
Downloading and holding assets in Gem Wallet incurs no platform fees. Cross-chain and in-app decentralized swaps carry an integrated platform fee of 0.5% for standard asset pairs and 0.25% for stablecoin-to-stablecoin swaps. Standard network gas fees apply to all on-chain transactions, and third-party fiat onramp processors set separate payment card processing charges.
Track record and audits
Since its launch in 2023, the platform has surpassed 1M+ users and recorded more than $200M in swap volume through October 2026. In April 2026, blockchain security firm CertiK completed an audit of the application's codebase. In September 2026, version 2.114.54 introduced dynamic real-time network fee calculations on the XRP Ledger, followed in October 2026 by custom EVM gas configuration.
Risks and limitations
Because Gem Wallet is entirely self-custodial, losing the 12-word backup phrase permanently removes access to stored assets, with no customer support recovery mechanism available. The platform is restricted to mobile operating systems and has no desktop applications.
