HIVE Digital Technologies is a publicly traded data center operator and digital asset miner that uses renewable power for Bitcoin production and high-performance computing (HPC). Operating across Canada, Sweden, and Paraguay, the company runs roughly 440 MW of active capacity, using revenue generated from Bitcoin mining to scale enterprise AI and machine learning infrastructure under its BUZZ HPC unit.
Leadership and corporate background
Founded in 2017 as HIVE Blockchain Technologies Ltd., the firm rebranded to HIVE Digital Technologies to reflect its dual compute strategy. The company is led by Executive Chairman Frank Holmes and President and CEO Aydin Kilic. HIVE's shares trade on public equity exchanges, including Nasdaq (ticker HIVE), the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: HIVE), the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FSE: YO0), and the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia (BVC: HIVECO).
Data center operations and business model
HIVE designs, owns, and runs its facilities using primarily hydroelectric power. Its data center strategy deploys a staged buildout: facilities are constructed as Tier I sites for Bitcoin mining, using single power and cooling paths to monetize electricity quickly, and then upgraded to Tier III standards with redundant power and cooling systems to host enterprise AI workloads. Canadian sites house industrial-scale ASIC hardware for Bitcoin mining, Swedish sites host enterprise NVIDIA GPU clusters for HPC clients, and Paraguay provides low-cost power from the Itaipú hydroelectric facility.
Scale and financial performance
In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, HIVE generated $297.8 million in total revenue, consisting of $278.3 million from digital currency mining and $19.5 million from HPC hosting. The company mined 2,885 Bitcoin during that period, operating with an installed mining hashrate of 25.1 EH/s. In late 2025, HIVE signed a definitive agreement to add a 100 MW hydroelectric campus expansion at its Yguazú site in Paraguay to increase aggregate compute capacity.
Operational risks and limitations
Because HIVE is an infrastructure operator rather than a retail mining pool, individual miners cannot point ASICs to its facilities or purchase cloud-mining contracts. Revenue remains exposed to Bitcoin network difficulty, which climbed by roughly 42% between fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2026, as well as periodic Bitcoin halving cycles. The company has also warned against ongoing phishing scams and fraudulent investment groups that impersonate its corporate brand to solicit retail funds.
